The Andaman-Nicobar basin was long considered a no-go zone. The government’s new Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP) has now opened up this vast area (nearly 10 lakh square kilometres) for exploration. This basin is now among India’s most promising but underexplored offshore regions.
